about

Dive into my very own musical ode to the woman.

Especie EP is a tribute to women and could easily be titled: Woman EP.

Historian Yuval Noah Harari has noted that six different types of humans once existed on Earth with a minimal ecological impact, but now there’s just us – Homo sapiens.

Even though we've witnessed the loss of many animals and plants in 2024, and humans have come to -arrogantly- dominate the planet, I feel incredibly lucky to be in an era where women play an important role in society.

This is a big change from times when they weren't allowed to work or vote and were confined to the domestic sphere.

I'm thankful that my sisters and nieces live in an era where women hold powerful positions in society. There's still progress to be made, but there's a cultural shift happening in urban areas even as I write this.

For this music project, I found inspiration in Christian Löffler’s work, where he reimagined music from over a hundred years ago for his album "Parallels: Shellac Reworks."

I’ve also been listening to Los Hermanos Gutierrez record: "El bueno y el malo" and Flabbergast (Vincent Lemieux & Guillaume Coutu Dumont) in the house music genre.

In his past life, Juan Badell was a manic record collector, DJ, and promoter, immersed in the electronic music scene in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Nowadays, reborn in Buenos Aires, he has a profound appreciation for the diverse sounds of South America.

He devotes himself to infusing these elements into his work through sampling techniques, drawing inspiration from Afro-Venezuelan rhythm patterns.
